What is Visión Adelante?

Programs:

After years of participating in workshops, attending rallies, and drawing inspiration from leaders in the immigrant rights movement, Adelante members came together in Fall 2021 to host the first Power Weekend. The gathering centered on youth advocacy and explored the role young people can play in organizing and advocating for the rights and dignity of undocumented families. Out of this shared commitment and energy, Visión Adelante was formed.

Visión Adelante now plays an integral role within the Youth Organizing Committee. Meeting twice a month, members collaborate to organize events, build coalitions with partner organizations, develop campaigns, and create spaces that foster community among immigrant youth. The committee is made up of dedicated youth leaders from across the Hudson Valley who are deeply committed to uplifting and holistically supporting undocumented communities throughout upstate New York.

Power Weekend

Power Weekend is a 3-day retreat in the fall that brings together undocumented and immigrant youth to build community, learn from one another, and grow as leaders. Throughout the weekend, participants engage in interactive workshops, panels, and group activities led by leaders in the immigrants’ rights movement. The retreat creates a supportive space where young people can connect with peers who share similar experiences, reflect on the challenges facing undocumented communities, and develop the skills needed to organize for change. Alongside learning and advocacy, Power Weekend also centers joy, creativity, and fun, allowing youth to build lasting friendships and a strong sense of collective belonging.

Youth Organizing Circle

The Youth Organizing Circle is a monthly gathering for immigrant youth across the Hudson Valley to continue building their leadership, advocacy, and organizing skills. Facilitated by leaders in Visión and the Youth Organizer, the sessions create a welcoming space where young people can come together to learn, reflect, and take action on issues affecting their communities. Through discussions, workshops, and collaborative activities, participants deepen their understanding of community organizing, develop advocacy strategies, and strengthen their confidence as leaders. The Circle emphasizes community building, political education, collective advocacy, and joy, ensuring that youth not only grow as organizers but also build lasting relationships and a sense of belonging.
